The History of Cve

In 2020, we celebrated our 50th anniversary!

1970

Russell C. & Russell F. Carpenter purchase Knapp Farm Supply and opened Champlain Valley Polaris as a single-store Ford Tractor dealership in Middlebury, VT.

1975

Russell C. & Brian R. Carpenter participate in the Garden Tractor Pulling Contest at Addison County Fair and Field Days.

1981

Russell F. Carpenter retires.

1986

Ford Motor Company purchases New Holland Machine Company.

1990

Construction for the Exchange Street, Middlebury location begins.

1991

Ford sells New Holland to Fiat.

1993

Brian Carpenter returns from Regular Army Service to assume management of the store.

1999

Fiat Group acquires Case Corporation and merges it with New Holland N.Y. to create CNH Global, a world-leader in farm machinery and construction equipment.

2001

CVE acquires Green Mountain Tractor in Middlebury, VT, expanding the operation in Middlebury & consolidating everything under one roof.

2001

Case IH, Kubota and New Holland Hay & Forage is added to our equipment lineup.

2005

CVE acquires Fine Line Equipment in St. Albans, VT, to become a 2-store dealership. Jason Bessette joins the company as a partner.

2006

Named "Dealership of the Year" by Farm Equipment Magazine.

2008

CVE acquires Derby Equipment in Derby, VT, to become a 3-store dealership. Josh Provost joins company as partner.

2012

CVE acquires Desmarais Equipment, a Kubota and Massey Ferguson dealer in Orleans, VT, and consolidates the business into the Derby location.

2012

CVE acquires Riverside Equipment, a Kubota dealership in Berlin, VT becoming a 4-store dealership.

2013

Middlebury location large equipment shop burns.

2014

CVE acquires L.W. Greenwood & Sons in East Randolph, VT. Bobcat is added to our equipment lineup in all locations.

2014

Receives the Business of the Year Award from Addison County Chamber of Commerce.

2015

Russell C. Carpenter retires.

2016

Krone is added to our equipment lineup.

2016

CVE builds new Derby, VT store to better serve the community.

2017

Bandit Industries is added to our equipment lineup.

2018

East Randolph store merged into the Berlin location.

2018

Middlebury and St. Albans locations install Solar Panels.

2020

February 2020--Russell C. Carpenter passed away leaving a legacy behind and the community joined together.

2022

February 21, 2022--CVE acquires Essex Equipment, a Kubota dealer in Essex, VT.
